Q: What is the uniqueness of the tank?

The uniqueness of tanks could be seen from different components with specific requirement.

There are 5 major component that you should know when you learn about storage tank design:

1. Foundation
2. Bottom
3. Shell
4. roof
5. nozzle

Beside that, each component has specific requirement:

1. design
2. erection
3. inspection
4. testing

One thing that you should remember is, there are 2 major welds in storage tank design:

1. Bottom-to-shell
2. Shell-to-roof

API 650 ORGANISATION

When you learn about storage tank design, first of all you should be alert about its organization. There are 8 different sections under organisation and they are organized by fabrication sequence. The 8 section are:

• Section 1 – Scope
• Section 4 – Materials
• Section 5 – Design
• Section 6 – Fabrication
• Section 7 – Erection
• Section 8 – Inspection
• Section 9 – Welding
• Section 10 – Markings
